  • A sequence is an ordered list of numbers. Each number is called a term.
  • When a sequence follows a pattern, each term can be described by its position in the list.
    Position 1 2 3 4 5 6
    Term 5 10 15 20 25 30
  • The general form of a sequence is t1, t2, t3, ... , tn, ... where n is the position of the term
  • A finite sequence has a last term and an infinite sequence continues indefinitely.
    • 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 is finite
    • 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, ... is infinite
  • If a sequence forms a pattern which can be defined by an algebraic expression then this expression is called the general term of the sequence and is represented at tn. The general term for the example above is tn = 5 x n.
  • A sequence is composed of discrete number, so when you plot them, the graph is also discrete and the points are not joined with a line or a curve.
